A feature of the Around New Zealand Air Safari 2010
is the lunch and dinner stopovers, where entrants will be met by
representatives from the local Flying New Zealand aero clubs.At each of these stopovers the Air
Safari will be hosted by the aero clubs where the main attraction is for
each of the districts to showcase their delicious cuisine, great wines,
tourist attractions and history.
When we reach Masterton and Timaru
for the rest days you will note that we have arranged some wonderful
tours, this is so you can enjoy the local tourist attractions, food, wines
and art galleries.Please
select the tour you would like to join from the choices on the
menu.
Except where indicated otherwise,
lunches will be $20.00 each and dinners $40.00 plus
drinks.
Bus transfers are available at each
overnight stop from the airfield to the accommodation that wasbooked on the Air Safari
website.This is a single cost
of $96.00 for the entire Air Safari from the evening of 23rd March through
to the evening of 1st April
2010.

Sunday 21st March LAUNCH DINNER
Tonight we will be hosted by the Auckland Aero Club
at the Ardmore Aerodrome for a very special Pacific FestivalExtravaganza
of food, wine and
music.
Tuesday 23rd March
LUNCH at Kaitaia
Northland is where the balmy climate
nurtures citrus fruits, olives, gourmet vegetables and the seafood is
plentiful and fresh, here we will be hosted by the Kaitaia Aero
Club.
DINNER at
Whitianga
The Mercury Bay Aero Club will host us at their hangar, for a
greatlocally presented
dinner with a touch of fish and shellfish which are plentiful in
the relatively sheltered waters of Mercury
Bay.
Wednesday 24th March
LUNCH at New
Plymouth
Taranaki’s strong rural heritage and
natural bounty has created a region that takes pride in its food, and we
will share this with our hosts the New Plymouth Aero Club.
DINNER
at Tauranga
Tonight we will join the Tauranga Aero
Club from 5.00pm for drinks (cash bar) and complimentary fresh seafood
delicacies cooked on the barbeque, afterwards you’re free to dine
independently in
Tauranga.
Thursday 25th
March
LUNCH at
Taupo
Taupo has dramatic mountain views and
a beautiful fresh water lake; here we will be hosted by the Taupo
Aero Club with the delicious local food prepared by the Tarmac
Cafe’.
DINNER
at Gisborne
Tonight we will enjoy a traditional Camp Oven Dinner hosted
by the Gisborne Aero Club,where we will enjoy the local Maori Culture with
entertainment by the local Kapa Hakagroup.
Friday 26th March
LUNCH at Hastings
Hastings is the fruit
bowl of New Zealand with its fresh local produce from the orchards,
market gardens and thefarm gate we will enjoy this freshness with our
lunch hosted by the Hawkes Bay and East Coast Aero
Club.
DINNER at Masterton
Tonight we will be hosted by the
Wairarapa Ruahine Aero Club from 5.00pm for a traditional barbeque
with fresh local lamb, locally grown vegetables and
salads. Cost:

Saturday 27th March
TOURS at Masterton
Tour 1.Tranzit Gourmet Wine Escape
Includes
the coach, and tastings at four vineyards, along with a
delicious platter lunch, with a glass of wine coffee and cheese
to finish with! This operates daily subject to a minimum of two and
a max of 22 people, and will depart from your Masterton
accommodation at 10am and return at 6pm delivering you back to your
accommodation.

Tour 2.Stonehenge
& Assisi Garden
This includes the
coach, plus entrance to Assisi Garden along with morning tea, plus
visit and an informative talk at Stonehenge.Then wander the historic
Greytown village where you can visit the boutique shops and purchase
your lunch at leisure, lunch will be your own cost. This Tour
departs your Masterton accommodation at 9.30am and returns to Hood
Aerodrome at 3.30pm approx.

Tour 3.Tui
Brewery Grain and Grape
Visit
the Tui HQ for a Brewery tour and tasting which includes three beers
plus we let you steal a handle! Enjoy a Kiwiana BBQ lunch then look
through the Histui Museum and Tui shop before heading off to
Matahwiti Vinyard for wine tastings. This tour includes your coach
which will depart from your Masterton accommodation at 10am
returning at 3.30pm to the Hood aerodrome.
Cost $100 per person. Please note that this is based on a
minimum of 30 people.
Tour 4. Mt Bruce, Shear Discovery &
Aratoi
Enjoy a shearing
display and a visit to Shear Discovery Museum along with Aratoi Art
and History Museum. You then drive through to Mt Bruce National
Wildlife Centre where you will enjoy lunch along with a tour and
catch the highlights of the eel and kaka feeding. You will travel by
coach and depart from your Masterton accommodation at 9.45am and
arrive back at the Hood Aerodrome at 3.45pm approx.

DINNER at Masterton
We will meet at the
Copthorne Hotel and Resort for a Smorgasbord dinner with a the best
seasonalproduce and a superb selection of local wines, we will enjoy the

Sunday 28th March

at Motueka
Today
we’re joining the local Aero Club for lunch in the idyllic Motueka which is renowned for organic
produce,apple
orchardsand a local
specialty of delicately smoked deli
products.
DINNER
at Blenheim
From
5.30pm to 7.30pm we will meet at the infamous Omaka Aviation Heritage
Centre for tours and refreshments that will include Marlborough salmon
and sugar cured venison along with a selection of Marlborough wines and
beers.You’re then free to
dine independently in
Blenheim.
GUIDED TOUR
OF HERITAGE CENTRE
Tickets are $40.00 which includes the Entry Fee to the
Aviation Centre and light food refreshments with cash only bar for
all
drinks.
Monday 29th March
LUNCH at Rangiora
We will
enjoy fresh flavours from the locally grown food and award winning
cheeses along with the Canterbury Aero Club as our hosts in this semi
rural environment.

Tour
1 - Tasman Glacier
Tour
You are collected by bus from
your accommodation at 9am, and then travel through the Mackenzie
Country to Fairlie , Tekapo and on to Mt. Cook Airport for a 40
minute Pilatus Porter flight onto the Tasman Glacier. The aircraft
will land on the glacier and allow you to walk around and take in
the views before a glacier take-off to return to Mt. Cook. The Mt.
Cook base staff will then transport anyone interested in travelling
to the Mt. Cook village for a walk around the historic Hermitage and
a look at our highest peak from the village. On our return to Timaru
the bus will stop for 30 minutes at the Lake Tekapo village.The Bus will return
you to the accommodation at approximately 5pm.This Tour has only 30 seats
available so book early to secure your place to the
Glacier.

Tour 2Art Gallery &
Local Artists Tour
This is a tour for those among you with a
penchant for Art. You will be collected by bus from your
accommodation at 9am and will travel to the outskirts of Timaru to
visit Trevor Askin who is a renowned bronze sculptor.Trevor will provide a tour
of his facility from the sculpting of wax, to casting the bronze,
and the finishing process, this is followed by morning tea provided
by Trevor.
At 10.45am you will be back on the bus to
travel through to Geraldine and visit the studio and home gallery of
John Badcock, a painter in oil and watercolour with a representation
in several high end galleries nationwide.Its then onto Geraldine for
lunch and a look around the town. At 1pm the bus leaves and returns
to Timaru stopping at Saffron Gallery in Washdyke to view a wide
range of work from local artists.At 2pm the bus departs
Saffron Gallery to to go to York Street Gallery.York Street is owned
and operated by Debbie Templeton-Page, a sculptor of stone, and well
known in the local area.York Street displays a wide range of paintings from local and
nationally renowned artists as well as Debbies sculpture and pottery
by Paddy Carr.At 3pm
the bus will travel to Aigantighe Art Gallery,the Timaru public gallery,
this gallery has a huge reputation for the quality of its displays.
Every stop has works for sale except for the Aigantighe Art Gallery.
All owners have been advised that the cost of any purchases will
have to cover carrier charges for delivery. The Aigantighe shuts at
4pm and is an easy walk back to accommodation or Timaru's main
street.

Tour 3DB Mainland
Brewery
At 10am you are collected by bus from your
accommodation and travel to visit Waitohi- the site of
Richard Pearse's first flight and the birthplace of
aviation.From
there its off to the Shearers Quarters for brunch. While there
you can browse through the knickknacks or have a game of mini golf.
After brunch you will then travel to the DB Mainland Brewery for a
1pm tour of the brewery followed by a tasting session in their well
supplied tasting room.At 3.30pm you will travel back to your accommodation.

We will join the locals and the
South Canterbury Aero Club for a Community Dinner at the Timaru Bay
hall, with the entree and a main course provided by Sopheze, desert
by Denheath Deserts and the opportunity to taste some local wines-
this is all followed by live music entertainment so bring your 80’s
dancing
shoes!
Wednesday 31st March
LUNCH
at Omarama/Oamaru (depending upon weather
conditions) -
Today we will pack a tasty picnic Lunch provided by the
South Canterbury Aero Club.
DINNER at Invercargill
The Southland Aero Club has organised some genuine southern
hospitality, with a taste of the iconic Bluff oysters, southern
lamb, prime beef and some delicious deserts- we’re in for a great night
at the Southern Wings
hangar.
Thursday 1st April
LUNCH at
Mandeville
Step
back in time to the elegant aviation era, as we have Lunch at The Moth
Restaurant dining out onlocal
roast lamb and cheeses,cod
with chips and passion fruit cake- hosted by the Southern Districts Aero
Club.
DINNER
at Queenstown
Arriving in Queenstown will be no ordinary affair, after
all, it is the adventure capital of the world and you are going to
experience that first hand as you’re greeted by the Wakatipu Aero
Club. Does the word
“bungy” strike fear to your soul?And when you thought that was a challenge then the “Guilty Party”
follows at the Guilty Bar in Queenstown’s party district.Great food, drinks and music
will celebrate your finish and all those Guilty things you got up to on
the Safari........... You won’t forget this finish line!

night.

Friday, and you're free to explore the sights of Queenstown.

The Prize
Giving Dinner will be held in the Millennium Hotel, meeting for drinks
and light refreshments in The Gallery at 6pm we will be treated to a
great view of the Remarkables . It’s time to share your
adventures of the last eight days on the Around New Zealand Air Safari
2010 before the Prize Giving Dinner.At 7pm we will move into the
ballroom for a delicious buffet meal with all the culinary delights of
Queenstown and very special New Zealand wines. Cash bar is
available.

SILVER TICKET TO
WARBIRDS OVER WANAKA - $90.00 each
TRANSPORT TO WARBIRDS OVER WANAKA
- $25.00 per passenger.
You will be
picked up from your Queenstown accommodation and
transported to Wanaka
Airport, for a full day at Warbirds Over Wanaka. At the conclusion of
the show you will be returned to your
Queenstown accommodation.
